Over-the-board chess, recorded

Your phone watches the board. You play.

Chessboard Cam follows a real game with the camera, writes down every move, and can broadcast it live to Lichess — for clubs, tournaments and games at home.

Download on the App Store Android: coming later

What it does

One phone on a stand next to the board. No electronic board, no sensors, no account needed to record.

It follows the game

Point the camera at the board and play. Every move is recognised and written down — no special board, no buttons to press.

Live on Lichess

Broadcast the game as it is played. Pick the tournament and round, enter the players, and anyone can watch online.

Every game kept

Games are saved on the phone with players, ratings and results, ready to share as PGN.

Eval bar and best move

Stockfish runs on the phone: see who is better and, if you want, the engine’s best move.

The video stays on the phone

Recognition runs on the device. The camera picture never leaves the phone.

iPhone and iPad

Portrait or landscape, with the board and the camera side by side on bigger screens.

How to start

The app shows the same steps on first launch.

  1. Put the phone on a stand

Above the board, tilted a little. It stays there for the whole game.

  2. Fit the whole board

All 64 squares in the frame, in bright, even light.

  3. Tap Play

From the start position. The digital board repeats every move.

  4. Go live — if you want

Connect Lichess and the game is broadcast as you play.

Honestly

Not 100%

A steep angle, poor light, a very fast game or a recognition mistake can make it miss a move. Watch the digital board and take a move back when needed.

A hobby project

Made by chess players in their spare time. The app is free with ads; any purchase — even one coffee — turns the ads off for good.
